Using Frost Covers

Frost covers help protect your plants from frost or sudden unseasonal dips in weather… like light snow and hail.

With climate change, unfortunately our weather is becoming more and more unpredictable (we had heavy snowfall on the first day of spring!!).

In such a scenario, frost covers provide our vegetable garden some insurance.

Spring is here in NY, and weather has finally turned a little mild. So I decided to start my spring seeds.

My spring kitchen garden will have…carrot, radish, turnip and salad greens along side spinach, kale, bokchoy, fenugreek and amaranth. And of course, not to forget my favorite peas…lots n lots of them!

I also planted my spring vegetable plants (started indoors to give me a jump start).

Spinach (Palak)

Turnip (Shalgam)

Indian Radish (Mooli)

And Lettuce

It was wonderful to finally see them nestled in their vegetable beds 🙂

But with the ever changing NY weather and sudden temperature dips, I have decided to use frost covers on my vegetable plant beds.

I bought these covers from Amazon.com…

And used these clips to secure them to the cedar beds.

However, you could even use stones to hold the covers down.

Now we wait and pray for warm weather and some light rain to help the seeds germinate and grow.

Keeping fingers crossed for NO MORE SNOW!
