Understanding your Frost Dates

It’s very important to look up the frost dates for both spring and fall for your area and plan your gardening projects around them.

Frost or freezing occurs when the temperature of air falls below the freezing point of water 0 °C or 32 °F. and ice crystals form on plant leaves, injuring, and sometimes killing, tender plants.

Very often we are tempted to disregard them by spouts of fair weather, early in the season. But do not be fooled.. the weather can turn at any time.

Even if you encounter a single night of temperatures dipping too low, you risk the danger of severe damage to your plants.

Last week, we enjoyed beautiful weather in the mid and late 50s and I was almost tempted to put some early spring veggies out into my vegetable patch.

But look at the snow we woke up to today, on 2nd April!!

Thank God I chose the path of caution!

And also remembered to transfer my tender seedlings from the cold sunroom into the warmth of our kitchen!
